Mushrooms on the Beach

Before I begin, I just want to put out there that this experience wasn’t as profound as I expected it to be. It certainly had me thinking once it was over, but please do not expect to read something enlightening and thought provoking… My trip didn’t necessarily go in that direction. Personally, I feel this trip was more of a glimpse into the world of hallucinogenics. It was my first time ever doing a hallucinogenic drug [I don’t consider mdma to be a hallucinogen], so I believe that the universe wanted to me get comfortable with it all.

Anyways, to the story!

I was quite nervous before taking the shrooms. My partner and I were driving around looking for a place to park in order to take these things on the beach [most beaches are closed at night here in Miami] for what seemed like forever. Finally when we found a parking spot, we opened up the bag of shrooms and began to feast. I didn’t eat as many as I had wanted to because my body was trying to puke it all out. The taste wasn’t too bad, although I wasn’t too fond of the after-taste…

After we ate them, we walked over to the beach. I brought with me Be Here Now by Ram Dass, because I heard it was a good comfort-zone book if your trip goes bad. It was really windy and cold, so my partner and I went up into one of the life guard houses to block the wind. After about 15 min or so [I have a really fast metabolism] everything got a lot brighter. Mind you, it was night time on the beach, and I could see everything pretty clearly at this point. I remember a few minutes later looking at the sand and commenting how it had cool patterns. That’s when I realized the shrooms were kicking in.

At first, I was a bit giggly… I remember extending any word that an “oo” sound to it [for example the ending of the word “yellow”]. I kept laughing at myself because I was talking funny…

I looked up at a building behind us and noticed on the top floor, there were two small lights that were “looking down” at us. They looked like eyes to me. I told my partner that those lights brought good vibes, and I felt like they were watching over us to protect us. I remember I started seeing the world almost in a grid-like form. It’s hard to explain what I saw… It just all looked like a grid. I also felt like everything was moving forward… Again, hard to explain. But here’s a picture that give you an idea:

Finally we went down to the sand and I was freeeeeezing cold!! I practically sat down the entire time I was tripping because I was so cold. There was a boat fat out in the ocean that looked like a real life version of The Beatles’ yellow submarine. I remember that made me smile so much, and once again, I felt like the yellow submarine was watching over my partner and I. The ocean looked really nice. It was all one. Not even the crashing waves looked like separation within the water. There were buildings off in the distance, and one of them looked like a giraffe… Like, a building giraffe. It made me laugh, and my partner agreed it looked like a giraffe. Another building at the other end of the beach looked like it had a frog with a crown on it’s roof. Again, it didn’t look like a real frog… It’s kind of like when you are looking at the clouds and the cloud looks like a teacup or something. You know it’s a cloud, but it looks like a teacup.

All night, there were planes flying… I remember the noise of the planes synced with the noise of the waves, and it absolutely irritated me! I also felt like the same plane was circling around us for hours… I was almost getting suspicious of it.

Anyways… I remember at a certain point, I really started to feel the shrooms kicking. I could feel the trip turning a little dark, so I started to stare at my book. Looking at the book was my comfort zone… It reminded me to just be here now… It reminded me that this was not reality. That really helped in keeping this trip fun. I closed my eyes for what felt like a long time, and I remember I could literally feel everything happening at once. That’s probably the best description of shrooms for me: everything happens at once. I guess I was literally feeling being in the moment.

While my eyes were closed, I remember seeing this scary but awesome pattern… Almost as if I were looking at a green wall with hundreds of large eyes [they were sideways] and they were all moving independently…

Finally when I opened my eyes again, I looked behind me at the palm trees were swaying in the wind… The only thing was that they seemed to be in super slow motion… My partner noticed it too!

Now comes probably the weirdest thing I saw. As I was looking in the sand, I saw a face. The face looked human, but there was only a face… It’s eyes were closed and it’s mouth was open a bit. It wasn’t moving or breathing at all. It was like a dead face. It didn’t scare me or anything, I thought it was pretty bad ass. I guess my partner and I were a bit synched though, because he saw the sand as a big face too! Except for him, the sand was breathing…

Finally, the shrooms began to come down. The entire time, the yellow submarine was out there. The little lights at the top of the building were gone, though. I think they had finished their job. Reality started to seem more real again… The come down of shrooms for me was really smooth. Nothing like mdma, where you can literally feel it coming down or crashing.

My partner and I hung out at the beach for a few hours after tripping… His friend joined us last minute and ate the rest of the shrooms, so we were able to watch him trip. Mind you, my partner and his friend had shroomed before. I was the only newbie.

I definitely plan on tripping again… the experience was amazing and very different to what I was used to. I think the most important thing to remember is that you have control over your thoughts and reality. That helped me have a fun trip. :]
