Open In Case of 1994

I think the 1.44 megabyte floppy is still my favorite form of media. It felt good in your hands. Sturdy. You didn’t have to fear getting fingerprint smudges on it. They weren’t huge, but they also weren’t so small that you’d lose them. Floppies had that satisfying click when you pushed them into the drive. When no one was looking you would pull back the metal covering to see what was under it. You would accidentally touch the magnetic disk inside and worry that you’ve ruined your data. If you wanted to make sure no one rewrote the disk, you could flip that little tab and lock that bitch up. And the sounds. I loved the sounds it made when being written to. It really made you feel like some serious business was going on inside your computer.
I miss you floppy disk.
I just wish it wouldn’t take 5 million of you to back up my data. C’est la vie.

I completely agree with everything written here…

I still have an 1.2 and an 1.44 MB floppy drive, that I removed from an old computer. I will keep them for good, though...
